Lucas- Kindergarten Homeschool Portfolio 2019-2020

This was Luc's first year of official homeschooling.

Reading Log:
Lucas independently read 35 books. He also enjoyed listening to the read alouds: "The Burgess Book of Animals for Children" and "The Burgess Seashore Book for Children."
He sat in during a few audiobooks with his sister and found a few of them very entertaining.

We love transitioning into our homeschool year by using the Daily Learning Notebooks by Erica Arndt (The Confessions of a Homeschooler). For Lucas, we opted to use the Pre-K version.

Lucas was very interested in learning about the 50 States and their capital cities. He has come to memorize most of them, which was very much interest-led learning. He also enjoys making his own maps of the United States in his spare time.

History Projects:
Lucas studied Native American tribes, specifically, the Inuit and the Tlingit tribes. He created history pockets with information on each specific tribe that we studied. We plan to study more Native American tribes next year.

Lucas also studied some of Brynn's History curriculum.
The Good & The Beautiful - History Year 2
He enjoyed playing Explorers & Settlers, which is a card game that is part of the curriculum.
He learned about many explorers and settlers (e.g. Marco Polo, Lewis & Clark, and Vasco da Gama) and their significance to the Age of Exploration. This was not required of him, but was also interest-led learning.

Field Trips:
Cracker Country
Florida Pioneer Museum
Bishop Museum of Science - Planetarium
Everglades National Park
